It has been a year since blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu (27) was stabbed to death. However, the case is yet to be tried in court.
He was attacked and killed by members of Ansarullah Bangla Team while he was going to his workplace on March 30, 2015. His brother-in-law Monir Hossain Masud filed a case in this incident on the very same day.
The charge-sheet of the case has been submitted to the court. DB Inspector Moshiur Rahman, the investigative officer of this case submitted it on September 2. Afterwards, the police were supposed to submit a report regarding ‘issuing arrest warrants against the accused’ to the court. 6 consecutive dates to submit this report have passed till now. The next day of submission has been set on April 3.
Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu stated, “The trials cannot start until the report of ‘issuing arrest warrants against the accused in hiding’ is submitted. The trials will start very quickly when the report is submitted. I hope the proceedings will soon begin. I will also notify the GR branch about this delay.”
