Distinctive Memory Cells are real!

A team led by Mortimer B. Zuckerman from Mind Brain Behavior Institute, Colombia and the Columbia University of Medical Center, have made this great breakthrough. They were successful in generating new memory and behavior pattern cells, then observe it at the same time. They totally nailed the position of newly generated neurons taking places into the existing brain circuits of conscious mice. This process is called ‘Adult Neurogenesis’. They discovered a delicate deep structure in brain ‘Dentate Gyrus’, creates the brain cells before distributing them into the integrated circuit. Much like emotion’s headquarter for receiving and distributing memory orbs! Though they are struggling to find the reason for that specific region. Mazen Kheirbek of imaging team also found it very difficult to image the area. Since, the adult-born granule cells around it, are very much different than brain cells of other regions. But he figured that, familiar yet new environment may produce different pattern of memories. As their senior author Attila Losonczy put it, this allows them to differentiate between newborn and mature brain cells. Further findings will help to sort out many neural diseases. René Hen of psychiatry, professor of neuroscience and pharmacology at CUMC mentioned, the impacts of these dynamic cells will also tell them about the pattern of behavior, for better therapeutic approaches.
