Anonymous is back! Everyone is all excited and over the moon about the fact that the “heroes of the internet” have finally turned their heads towards the Fascist Orange with fur for hair that goes by the name of Donald Trump. Now, while all of you are rejoicing the fact that something is actually being done against a hate breeder, the biggest question is, will attacks from Anonymous actually make a difference?
Anonymous had shut down their operations after #OPParis, which was a co-ordinated attack aimed at bringing the names and contact details of the terrorists affiliated with ISIS to light. Since then, only branches of the organization have been running operations that one would describe as being petty and immature. The organization that was responsible for cyber attacks against bigshots like the KKK, The Church of Scientology, The Westboro Baptist Church and even the USA as well as numerous governments around the globe.
The truth remains that this “war” is being raged by a shell of an organization that used to strike fear in the hearts of all they crossed. At one point, their influence was such that once they targeted someone, catching sleep was impossible for the poor guy. The organization that once cleverly removed, planted files and shared them to the general public has now been reduced to doing regular website shutdowns. To be honest, this routine is getting rather blasé.
This Anonymous-lite, instead of maturing into a group of elite hackers with clear goals has been taking steps backwards and performing actions which even makes your truly, who was once a vocal supporter of the group, wonder if they really know what they are doing.
The recent declaration of war was announced through a video in which they called out in retaliation of the absurdity that Trump brings to the table.
“Dear Donald Trump, we have been watching you for a long time and what we see is deeply disturbing. Your inconsistent and hateful campaign has not only shocked the United States of America [but] you have shocked the entire planet with your appalling actions and ideas. You say what your audience wants to hear but in reality you don’t stand for anything except for your personal greed and power.”
If this threat was issued by the Anonymous of old, I assure you, Trump would have gone to hide in a little country just below The United States that he seems to despise. However, shutting his website down with a large-scale and orchestrated distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack will do little to harm his presidential campaign. At the end of the day, even if a little dirt is exposed on Trump, his hypnotized supporters would probably disregard it anyways and continue on with their blind faith.
It’s absurd to even think a man with views as radical as Trump has a real shot of being The President of the United States of America. Now that Anonymous has declared total war on him, all we can do is wait and see what happens.
