Khalid Mahmood Mithu, an artist and filmmaker, died as a tree fell on him while passing through a road in the city’s Dhanmondi area on Monday.
Noor-e-Azam, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station, said a tree fell on a rickshaw carrying Khalid Mahmood, husband of noted artist Kanak Chanpa Chakma, while he was passing through Road-4 around 2 pm, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 2:30 pm.
However, the rickshaw-puller escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu expressed profound shock at his tragic death and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
