Prof Nazrul Islam, Urban Planner, Former Chairman of UGC: The public transport sector is now in utter disarray. The transport service providers do not care a hoot for the rules and regulations. The policy makers of the government often say that they are gravely concerned over the sector but in reality, it is not so.
It is not necessary to show the bad examples of accident taking place in any country. Instead, we can bring the good examples to the fore. We would like to see the good examples. Accidents occur in all countries. But abnormal accidents are not acceptable. Any speech, which may hurt the people’s feelings, should not come from the upper echelon of the government. We have to sympathize with the affected people.
The chaos in road transport sector is unacceptable and steps have to bring discipline to the public transport system at all costs. Necessary initiatives have to be taken from the higher echelon of the government in this regard. Otherwise, accidents will continue to happen. We hope that the government will attach top priority to it.
