DOT Desk:Bangladesh lost two of their stalwarts — Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan — in space of just 18 deliveries as England spinners join the party in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today, reports The Daily Star.
The Tigers went from 95 for two to 106 for four in overs between 19.4 to 22.4. However, Bangladesh had gotten off to a decent start, with the Tigers amassing 54 for the loss of two wickets in the first Powerplay.
The Tigers also looked to be building on that momentum as Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur stitched together another crucial 44-run third-wicket stand. However, Mushfiqur, trying to take leggie Adil Rashid on, ended up giving an easy catch to deep midwicket in the 20th over.
Mushfiqur looked a bit shaky against the English spinners as he also survived a close call when he saw Phil Salt fail to keep his balance near the boundary, gifting the batter six runs in the 17th over, bowled by Moeen Ali.Moeen came into the act once again, this time when he got the most crucial wicket of Shakib to blow a huge dent in Bangladesh’s hopes. Moeen fired in a delivery towards the left-hander and Shakib, playing across the line, failed to make any connection and ended up seeing his stumps disturbed. Shakib managed 8 off 12 deliveries.
