Moazzem Hossen Alal, Joint Secretary General, BNP : Some banks have been established in our country, which were distributed to leaders of Awami League. For instance, Farmers’ Bank, NRB Bank, Meghna Bank and many others are owned by members of Awami League. There are many non-government banks, which have become bankrupt through financial debacle. In our country, Bangladesh Bank is supposed to be a secure place for keeping money.
Yet, money is still being stolen from there. Crores of cash has been leeched away abroad but no effort has been made to recover it. Our finance minister has told reporters eleven times that the stolen money from Bangladesh Bank will be recovered. But even today he has been unable to address the issue. Now he is saying that he cannot talk about the matter. Those who stole the money are very powerful people. That is why I cannot reveal their names. So who are these people?
Krishi Bank is about to go bankrupt. Farmers have been able to withdraw 20-30 thousand taka from there. Among whom, 2 lakh farmers have been accused with certificate cases, but in the secretariat there are 22 lakh workers, many of whom are not paying taxes properly. But these workers are having their salaries raised and experiencing many benefits. They are getting houses and cars. But unfortunately, those who are the life of the economy, who are keeping our economy alive, they are getting sued. No one is standing up for them.
