BD Rahmatullah, Energy Expert, Ex-Director General of Power Cell : Neither the hard rock sank into the ground, nor was it a case of system loss. It was simply a smuggling case.
Granite is a valuable stone. It was said that 3.60 lakh tonn
es of granite worth Tk 55 crore went missing from the stock of Maddhapara Granite Mining Company Ltd, a state-owned concern under Petrobangla. I think, the actual price is higher than what has been said.
Many influential people are behind the disappearance of the granite. No ordinary person, not even the Managing Director of the company has the power to commit such crime. The fraud is impossible unless the high-ups have a hand in it. It is not possible to digest the huge he quantity of stones without strong political backing.
The solution to this crisis lies in politics. There is no administrative or technical problem here, political solution is very important.
