Morning writer Militants surge: An uncontrollable epidemic
Omar Mateen, an American citizen of Afghan decent, stormed into a gay nightclub and open fired on the visitors killing 50 and injuring several. The shooter was reported to have visited the place before carrying out the hostile operation. The mass murder in the club is the deadliest attack in the US history. The relatives of the victims are still in shock from the irrecoverable losses.
It has been confirmed by President Obama that the gunman was severely radicalized on the internet by some influential international terrorist organization. The words of the President were conveyed to the world by James Comey, director of FBI. The shooting in the Pulse gay club is still under investigation as no direct clue of radicalization was yet found.
The shooter was 29.
This incident has an obvious and immediate effect on two issues that the world has been seeing over the past few months. Ahead of the US election, this turned out to be a great piece of dispute as hatred towards Islamic extremists and gay lovers have collided head on. On top of that, hangs a question of gun control.
The gun was bought legally by Omar Mateen a few days before the attack, President Bill Clinton stated.
Donald Trump, the much discussed Republican Presidential candidate, quickly took his turn to congratulate himself on twitter where he wrote that his decision to ban Muslims from entering US was right. He alleged that for some reason the Muslim community deliberately keep themselves from reporting such cynical Muslims who have the potential to pull off something that big.
One of the witnesses reported that the gunman was laughing frantically the entire time.
It has been suggested that Omar Mateen’s wife, Noor Zahi Salman, could also be charged as criminal if she was found guilty of knowing about the attack beforehand. Reports state that she tried to talk Mateen out of it.
Memorials have been held all around the world.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strongly condemned the killings and has said that she will use the ‘zero-tolerance policy’ to tackle anti-militant activities. She also said, a terrorist is a terrorist regardless of color, creed or origin.
This is just one of the most terrified attacks in the name of radical Islam that the world has seen in the recent past. There have been huge surge of attacks carried out by ISIS or other banned Islamic outfits. The blast in Paris was the deadliest attack in Europe since WWII and the bombing in Syria is a routine. ISIS have claimed to carry out attacks in Bangladesh too when they killed foreigners living in the country. However, the Bangladesh government, in a bid to undertake the situation, has launched an anti-militant drive in which 11, 307 people have been “picked up” by the police and taken to custody so far.
11, 307, that is the number of people held under suspect.
Muslims all round the world should be happily worrying about the big festival coming upon them. The country I live in is gleefully filled with people who fast during the daytime beating the scorching heat. They travel to work and come back home pushing the same insane crowd but never do they skip fasting. The country I live in sees Muslims donating in plenty to the poor and helpless. These Muslims are not militants. They are not extremists or radicalized. They are normal citizens of a normal country with a normal religion. And this is the same for Muslims all around the world. Few frenzied brainwashed terrorists should not be allowed to represent Islam, neither should Trump.
There are other ways. Better ways.
