There are over 30 public & private organizations for monitoring. But all of them are failing to take necessary steps to rejuvenate the lake. As when it was formed in1956. Unplanned zoom farming washig down all the hill’s mud in the rainy season, said BFDC Manager Commander Md. Asaduzzaman. While, Rangamati sewer wastes are being dumped in Kaptai Lake regularly.
Pollutions have created small floating islands and accelerated growth of water-hyacinth on the waters. Even, blades of tourist boats are getting stuck. Nearby areas are losing water as well.
It is long due for thorough dredging. Lake’s geological factors are creating complexities in the management. But, the DC has sent a letter requesting for a dredging of the lake soon. Since, they are failing to keep necessary water for running the hydro-electricity turbines. Because, a little water now floods the area. The government replied positively to take action soon, said DC Md. Manjarul Mannan.
