Had Bangabandhu been alive, Bangladesh’s development would have been possible long ago
Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury, Former Vice Chancellor, Dhaka University:
Bangabandhu struggled for Bangladesh throughout his life and he never compromised in his life. He gave us many things and could not accomplish many works as well. Some despicable people assassinated Bangabandhu along with his most family members. The present progress and development of Bangladesh would have been possible long ago, if the Father of the Nation had been alive.
The huge void left by Bangabandhu can never be filled. It is quite a different matter if someone comes thousand years later. People crave for another leader like Bangabandhu. However, they know it very well that this is not so easy.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working to materialize the dreams of Bangabandhu. Sheikh Hasina possesses almost all qualities of the Father of the Nation; clear ideas about mission, vision and dreams of Bangabandhu, thought for public welfare, relations with the people. However, fulfillment can only be found in Bangabandhu. Sheikh Hasina is second to none to materialize the dreams of Bangabandhu.
We can compare Bangabandhu to Nelson Mandela. The great political leader of South Africa served 27 years of his life in prison for civic rights and liberty. After his long fight against discrimination, Mandela took over the responsibility of his country in the twilight years of his life.
We can also compare Bangabandhu to the Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, because he established a state fighting a formidable force. Actually, we can liken Bangabandhu to very few people. Bangabandhu shines with his own light. He established our nation-state. He sacrificed his life. It is tragic that some despicable people assassinated a person who did many things for his fellow citizens. The heinous killing moved us back. The state treaded the wrong path too.
After coming to power, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sheikh has been trying to steer Bangladesh to the right path. She has been desperately trying to clear all the mess.
