Maj. Gen. (retd.) A K Mohammad Ali Shikdar: Drug trafficking is a major obstacle for society. The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that the nation and its people are under threat. Those who are associated with these immoral acts are criminals.
Therefore any quote, comment or debate that hints at mercy for them is dangerous for the state. So the campaign of security forces should continue stronger than before. There are rules and systems in place for confirming the occurrence of ‘cross-fires’ during security forces’ campaigns. Magisterial investigations are conducted when “cross-fires” take place but whether these investigations really do take place is left to be seen.
There is no need to make a fuss about whether the drug peddlers are killed in ‘cross-fires’ or not – the State’s security is at stake here. This ring of miscreants is responsible for destroying the nation and its youth. Thus, there should be no scope for siding on their behalf.
This problem cannot be solved only through efforts by security forces. Though a temporary solution could be found, it will not be a long-term one. To find a long term solution, a social movement should be formulated in a holistic and well-organized manner. Whether it be in villages, roads or in neighborhoods, a movement should be created at the state-level. Very powerful Godfathers are associated in the illegal drugs business. Not only should grass-roots level movement be waged against them, but also strict legal measures as well. Those who are being arrested, it should be made sure that their trials be sped up as well.
