BNP’s politics involving Carlile fails, too!
Wali-ur Rahman, Former Ambassador: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is serving jail term after being convicted in a graft case. However, the party terms the incarceration to be political and the government was behind it all. But the question arises whether BNP has yet managed to prove the claim through proper logic, be at court or even publicly. The party, for sure, did not leave any stone unturned in this case and it still kept on trying its best. Baron Alex Carlile, a lawyer for Khaleda, was a part of the party’s attempt to substantiate the claim. Carlile had to return to London, right from an Indian airport.
Indian authorities claim that he had a different intention. The British lawyer tried to split the relation between India and Bangladesh through a misunderstanding. Nobody can do a job with a student visa and similarly, it is not permissible to carry out political campaign having a business visa. What he tried in Delhi, could have been done from England. He himself knew that he would be denied access with the business visa. And that is why he possessed a return ticket. Upon returning to London, he said he had taken the initiative to narrate in India the legal system and political situation of Bangladesh, after the being denied entry there.
He was informing different media outlets in London that Khaleda was framed in cooked-up cases and being harassed politically.
He also declared that he would describe the situation in India, upon being barred from entry to Bangladesh. It is clear that he tried to do politics with Khaleda’s imprisonment. If not so, he would have never flown to India on a business visa to do something else. He would not have carried a return ticket as well. He tried to create a mess in the friendly relation between India and Bangladesh. The lawyer had earlier tried to protect the war crimes convicts in Bangladesh. He carried out propaganda against Bangladesh then by trying to make its independent legal system questionable. He could not succeed then, and has failed recently as well. It cannot be said that he will not continue his efforts. He will try to harm Bangladesh and we have to be aware of the matter. Translated by Sayeed Muahammad
