Dr. Atiur Rahman, Former Governor, Bangladesh Bank: Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and almost all of his family members were murdered in 1975. Later, Bangladesh faced difficult challenges. In the absence of Bangabandhu, the architect of independent Bangladesh, we were blessed to have his daughter Sheikh Hasina to deal with those tough challenges.
Bangladesh was walking backwards, on the way to Pakistan. Keeping the ideology ahead we had fought for liberation, the economic equity for which Bangabandhu was always vocal, everything had disappeared. The entire Bangladesh had fallen into darkness. From that state of darkness, it was very challenging to bring back Bangladesh towards the ideology of Liberation War.Under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the pro-liberation parties again got back into the power first in 1996 and had the opportunities to build a modern Bangladesh. After a break, the development is underway since 2009 till now.Longtime leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter is now leading the Bangladesh towards the development what Bangabandhu dreamt of. The journey of development that has now started is very similar to Bangabandhu’s dream. Bangabandhu did not like corruption, disorder and discrimination. Therefore, we have more scopes to improve in these sectors.
