Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Safinul Islam arrivedvia a naval helicopter at the Navy’sForward Base yesterday at Cox’s Bazar’s St Martin’s Island, which is situated near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
He was accompanied by BGB Cox’s Bazar’sRamuGOC Major General Moin Uddin Chowdhury, BGB Cox’s Bazar Regional Commander Brigadier General Sajedul Rahman and Sector Commander Manjarul Hasan Khan, reports Shomokal.
Aside from whom, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hassan Khan, Commander of the Teknaf 2 BGB Battalion, Operation Officer Major Rubayat Kabir, Coastguard and Navy officials were present.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hassan Khan provided that the DG himself rode a motorcycle to the light house next to the Coast Guard’s office. There, he visited the BGB outpost, and the area’s recommended by the BGB.He had also scheduled a press briefing for journalists yesterday afternoon.
The BGBprovidedthe BGB had been operating on the island since 1997, then the Coast Guard continued to operate on the island. After a 22-year shutdown, on April 7 this year the BGB has started a regular patrol alongside the Coast Guard. The government has taken an initiative to establish a BGB outpost on the island to protect the border, as well as prevent trafficking. This is the first time the BGB DG has arrived at the outpost.
