Since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina adopted zero tolerance policy to curb terrorism after Holey Artisan Terrorist Attack, Bangladesh has improved six notches to the 31st place among 82 countries in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), published by the Sydney-based Think Tank Institute for Economics and Peace in Australia (IEP).
According to the report, terrorist activity in Bangladesh has declined in the year 2018. Last year, a total of 31 terrorist attacks took place in Bangladesh, killing 7 people. The death toll from terrorist attacks dropped by 70 percent this year from what it was in the year 2017. The report mentions about our government’s initiatives for curbing terrorism after the Holly Artisan attack.
According to the list provided in global terrorism index , the number of casualties in terrorist attacks has decreased by 15.2 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year. The number of casualties in terrorist attacks was 33,555 in 2014 which has decreased by 53%.
However, the situation in the whole world is not same. The number of terrorist attacks in 98 countries in the world has decreased. On the contrary, the number of terrorist attacks has increased in 40 countries.
