A puff of solace A Shining Star Descends: Christina Grimmie
Sakib Khondoker
Funny world we live in. A world where rapists are excusable and not considered important enough to be punished. Whereas people have to give their lives because they are talented. Yes, I’m talking about Christina Grimmie.
A few days back, the world lost one of it’s brightest stars. One of the most talented upcoming singer was shot in the head at one of her concerts in Orlando, Florida. The 22 year old prodigy of the music industry had already made an invaluable mark with her amazing voice. A kind of voice which only a few are gifted with. A voice which sooths a person in bad times and in joy.
I remember watching an YouTube video of her performing “Counting Stars” on the Reality Show “The Voice”, where she emerged. Her bout against Sam Behymer made millions fall for not only her once in a lifetime voice but also her elegant grace. She was a godsend.
Let’s take a step back and think about this tragedy. Let us question why this happened. Did she wrong anyone? Commit any crimes?
I guess her biggest crime wwas not answering every single fanmail. Or, replying to every comment in her Facebook and Instagram. Because that is what eventually took her life. A derailed fan shot her out of nowhere. This is due to a severely overlooked but vital reason.
The situation can become dangerous when the obsessed fan feels slighted. Emails go unanswered. Facebook messages are ignored. Instagram comments are deleted. When the person feels minimized, when they feel jilted, discounted, anything like that. They can kind of flip to this other side, where they escalate their attention-seeking behaviors. And then it can turn into something violent.
With almost every deranged celebrity fan, there is a trail of attempts to make contact.
There’s usually always a pattern. It’s not just something that happens once. One letter from a fan professing undying love for a celebrity may not raise any red flags, he adds, but if a second, third or fourth arrives from the same person, it needs to be taken seriously.
The problem with today’s world is that we overlook the fatality that human minds can conceive. We may pass this as any other murder suicide. But what if this happens again? What if the next celebrity who happens to be performing in a bar is stabbed or hacked to death? Who assures their security? I don’t know. What I know is, this has to be stopped.
I still remember Christina’s Wrecking Ball performance made all four judges turn around and fight to have her on their team, it was just one in a string of incredible performances at ‘The Voice’.
Christina won fans over with an enchanting piano cover of Katy Perry’s chart-topping track Dark Horse after scoring a place in the Top 12.
The singer’s performance of Drake’s signature track Hold On, We’re Going Home became a smash hit with viewers as it shot into the Top 5 on the US iTunes Chart during Week Two of the series.
As she made her way through to the finals, mentor Adam Levine joined Christina on stage for a stunning performance of UK Number One hit Somebody That I Used To Know.
The 22 year old future star in the making gave her life to a derailed ‘fan’. Her biggest gift became her worst enemy. The world needs to know about this tragedy and understand it’s fatality.
You really did come in like a Wrecking ball, Christina.
Rest in peace, Princess.
