‘Beporowa’ faces complications before release

Desk Report: The directors’ association in Dhallywood created another stumbling block for Jaaz Multimedia’s new venture ‘Beporowa’, scheduled to be released this Eid. They claimed the guidelines set by Bangladesh government for joint-venture films had not been followed, reports Prothom Alo. The production house has to import the film to release it in Bangladesh, the directors claimed.
Officials of Jaaz Multimedia, however, denied the allegations and said they had followed all the rules during filming of ‘Beporowa’.
“I followed every rule for making the joint-venture. Now the directors’ association is creating hurdles. If this continues, producers will stop making films,” said Abdul Aziz, the founder of Jaaz.
Confirming the letter, the MD of BFDC, Amir Hossain, told Prothom Alo, “Jaaz Multimedia has submitted the permission letter they got from Bangladesh government for shooting the film abroad. And it is not under our authority to verify whether or not the director is a guest member of the directors’ association. That is not mandatory.”
Amir Hossain said, BFDC will provide the NOC for the film after completing certain formalities by Sunday.
President of the directors’ association Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar said, BFDC was not entitled to provide clearance without an NOC from the producers and directors association.
“It is not a government rule but there was an agreement between BFDC and the associations that BFDC has to seek NOC from the associations to give clearance to a film,” he added.
Asked about the agreement, Amir Hossain said, “I don’t know about the papers. I am just doing my duty as a government official.”
