Rubya Tripty: After attacking a guard with knife outside the Iranian ambassador’s office, a 26-year old Austrian was shot dead immediately, police said. Police spokesman Harald Soeros told AFP, the assailant “died on the spot” after the soldier opened fire just before midnight local time. The motive for the attack is not yet known, he added.The standing guard outside the building was believed to fire his weapons at least four times. Before firing he used pepper spray against the assailant. The soldier, who was the guard suffered a wound to his upper arm in the attack.A spokesman from the ministry of defence quoted by the APA agency defended the soldier saying , he “acted within the rules”. Official added, the soldier is being treated in the hospital. Police have ordered reinforcements around all diplomatic missions in the city.
