Mary Wetherspoon/ Seven Billion Today
35 days of desperation is the most accurate and appropriate way to describe the last period of time. I am an employee of the government. I work in the education sector. I have always paid my taxes, been a loyal employee and never missed work without a valid reason. I am also a Mother and I have to put food on the table and pay the bills.
Over the last 35 days, I have been struggling to make ends meet, and I have had to visit food banks and take food from my neighbors. It has been a huge struggle, and for what? All because of a wall.
People have been asking me if I am pleased to hear that Trump has succumbed to pressure and will back pay all federal employees. No, I am not pleased as the mental strain of the past 35 days can not be compensated with money that I was due anyway. The stress and panic of the last 35 days can not be wiped away and for that – I am not pleased. I am far from it. I am appalled, disgusted and furious that my President can carelessly inflict this strife on people without a second thought.
