Motorcade of Fakhrul intercepted in Narayanganj

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam’s motorcade was intercepted by unknown miscreants when he was on his way to attend an election rally in Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj yestreday afternoon. “Fakhrul’s motorcade was intercepted by setting fire to tyres and bamboos on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Madanpur area,” said Sayrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia’s media wing. Fakhrul was scheduled to address a rally organised by Jatiya Oikyafront in Sonakanda of the upazila this afternoon, reports The Daily Star.
Later, the BNP leader and other party members continued their journey through a different route with the help of the local administration.
When contacted, Naryanganj Additional Superintendent of Police Mominul Islam said they were looking into the incident.
BNP is leading the Jatiya Oikya Front, a political alliance of the major opposition parties, in the next polls slated for December 30.
