Woman allegedly beaten to death in Nilphamari, 3 arrested

    A female honours student has been allegedly beaten to death by her boyfriend’s relatives in Dimla, Nilphamari, in an incident that occurred at the Shovan Ganj Balapara village under the Balapara union on Wednesday, reports Dhaka Tribune.
    The deceased has been identified as Surobhi Akter, 22, daughter of Abdur Sattar of the Melapanga village in the same area, Dimla police station OC Mofiz Uddin Sheikh told the Dhaka Tribune. She was a second year honours student studying political science at the Nilphamari Government Women’s College. The boyfriend’s relatives reportedly left Surobhi’s body at the hospital in critical condition and fled the scene.
    Police have arrested three suspects.
    , namely Afzal Hossain, 55, Khushiar Rahman, 48, and Shahjahan, 32in this regard.
    According to the police Surobhi had had an affair with Arfan Ali, 22, son of Afzal Hossain of the Shovan Ganj Balapara village of the same upazila, for the last three years.
    The father of the deceased, Abdus Sattar has claimed that Arfan’s family is responsible for his daughter’s death.
    “I want justice for my daughter,” he said.
    He said: “On December 17, Arfan Ali took my daughter to his house. He told her that they will get married. Arfan’s family refused to accept the marriage of the two.”
    However the locals tried to resolve the matter with both the families involved on Tuesday but failed to come to a settlement.
    This reporter tried to contact the Balapara union parishad Chairman Jahurul Huq over phone but was unable reach him.
    Dimla police station OC said: “We have sent the body for autopsy to the Nalphamari Sadar Modern Hospital morgue.’
    “Surobhi’s family is preparing to file a case with the Dimla police station,” he added.
