Desk Report: Chattogram University Assistant Prof Maidul Islam has been sent to jail on completion of his bail term in an ICT Act case over his Facebook post on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports The Daily Star. Local District and Sessions Judge Md Ismail Hosen denied further bail to him today after hearing, our staff correspondent reports quoting defendant’s lawyer Bulon Bhowmick. CU unit Chhatra League’s Executive Member Md Ifterkhar Uddin Ayaz sued the professor under the infamous ICT Act with Hathazari Police Station on July 23, accusing Prof Maidul to have defamed the premier. Earlier, the High Court on August 6 granted Maidul a bail of eight weeks which expired today. He filed a petition seeking extension of his bail today, which was denied.
