HC order on probing authenticity of 4,000 ‘political cases’ sought

Kabir Humayun: A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directive on the government to form a high-powered commission to investigate the authenticity of around 4,000 cases filed this month across the country against the leaders and activists of BNP and other political parties.
Three Pro-BNP lawyers – Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Advocate Sana Ullah Mia collectively – filed the petition, reports The Daily Star
In the petition, they said that 4,000 fictitious and malafide cases were filed against 3 lakh leaders and activists of opposition political parties including BNP.
According to the writ statement, the cases were filed so that they cannot take part in the next parliamentary elections likely to be held at the end of December.
The lawyers, in the petition, prayed to the High Court to order the government to take actions against the people who are responsible for filing the cases.
Talking to the Daily Star, Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain said that the BNP office has recorded the information of filing the “fabricated and fictitious” cases against the political activists.
The HC may hold hearing on the petition today.
