Kabir Humayun: Law enforcers have taken tight security measures ahead of the holy Ashura to be observed on Friday.
A multilevel security measures have been taken centering the venues in the capital, DMP Commissioner Asadzuzzaman Mia told journalists yesterday, reports the Daily Star.
Earlier in the day, he examined security preparations at Hossaini Dalan in Old Dhaka.
The DMP chief said that Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), SWAT and bomb disposal unites will be active performing their duties in those areas.
The processions will be cordoned off by police and no one will be allowed to join a moving procession from outside, he said, adding that bags and sharp objects will not be allowed in the procession while firecrackers will remain banned during the event.
Flag staff taller than 12 feet will not be allowed in the procession, he also said.
At least two people were killed and over 150 others injured in bomb explosions in front of the Hossaini Dalan on October 23, 2015.
