Prof Dr Ajoy Roy, Educationist : The long over election of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) should be held without further delay. However, the Dhaka University authorities will decide as to how they will hold the election complying with the court order. The university authorities will adopt the action plan in consultation with their legal adviser. The Ducsu came into being some time after the establishment of the university. Since then, it is the students’ representative body. It was formed to protect the interest of the students. The election to the Ducsu is held directly. A strong body representing the students is elected. The body has a lot of responsibilities. The elected representatives of the students are entrusted with some responsibilities.
The students often face various types of problems regarding dormitory, enrolment and course. Ducsu has a great role in creating leadership of the country.
The university authorities will issue an executive order to hold the Ducsu election and convene syndicate meeting, if necessary.
To rejuvenate the Ducsu, the university authorities will implement the decision taken at the syndicate meeting. The syndicate is the supreme authority here. The last Ducsu election was held on June 6, 1990.
