1,600kg ‘Khat’ seized at Dhaka airport

    Abrar Hussain: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has seized around 1,600 kilograms of Khat – a psychoactive drug – at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The contraband
    came from Ethiopia through Foreign Post Office and was recovered from the cargo unit, said Sharmin Jahan, assistant commissioner of CID.

    Tipped-off, a team of CID’s Serious Crime Squad seized the consignment, she said. The drug has the appearance of green tea leaves and is ingested by dissolving in water.

    Earlier on August 31 and September 8, 460kg and 160kg consignments of similar substance were seized by the customs officials, according to reports by The Daily Star.
